Understanding the IRSage catalog

An infrared signal is the transmitted waveform. A button associates that signal with a label on a remote. A remote profile groups those buttons, and compatibility records associate profiles with appliance models.

One signal can appear on many remotes. The same signal can also have different meanings on different appliances, so a popular label is useful evidence rather than a universal definition.

The current catalog is a research snapshot. Stored signal rows are not necessarily unique commands, and an imported source's confidence score is not a hardware test result.

Air conditioner remotes often transmit a complete state, including mode, temperature and fan speed. They need a separate state model rather than treating every operation as a simple button press.

Future tools will preserve the captured waveform, carrier assumptions, repeat structure and original source alongside decoded protocol parameters.
